In the face of the tail of hurricane Bertha, a hardy few set up a refreshment stall on Westcott green, selling bacon sandwiches, hot drinks and cake to serve the riders and spectators of the Ride Surrey event. 24,000 amateur riders in the morning braved the awful weather and lots were grateful for a hot drink and sandwich. The smaller profession group passed us 4 times but by then the storm had passed and the spectators arrived – and bought themselves tea and cake. We made over £800 which was excellent.
And the following weekend the Faurefold craft group had a stall at Capel Fete. Lovely day and lots of people keen on cake, jam and handmade cushions, broaches, bracelets, bags etc etc. £300 raised there. So our total creeps up. Margaret
