Ash removal in our woodland clears the way for healthy growth

This summer we embarked on an extensive campaign of felling in the woodland behind the house.  The woodland had become dark and overcrowded and with Ash dieback starting to really impact many of the trees. It was decided to remove all the Ash in one fell swoop (as it were)!  It will take a few years for the benefits to really be seen but, with more light reaching the woodland floor, we expect to see the rejuvenation and spread of the undergrowth; increasing biodiversity and encouraging the growth of strong and healthy trees.

The big trunks have been sold with proceeds helping fund the cost of the work and we have already seen ferns springing up behind them. Brush wood has been chipped and spread around the low-ropes area and the nature trail will be widened and chips spread early in the new year.
